Your Faith Is Your Future
It’s easier to take a step when you know where it leads. But what happens when you don’t?
As Cornerstone celebrated 40 years and honored Lead Pastor Tina Godair on November 1, guest Pastor Jonathan Perry took us to Hebrews 11. Through the stories of Noah, Abraham, and Moses, he showed what it looks like to trust God when the next step asks something of you and the outcome is still unclear.
Noah built before he could see why
Hebrews 11:7 tells us that Noah took God’s warning seriously and built an ark for his household. He had to start building while the danger was still out of sight.
Think about the work that came between hearing the warning and seeing the rain. Noah’s faith showed up in the work he did day after day. For us, that might look like keeping a commitment or following through on something God has already made clear, even while we’re waiting to see where it leads.
Abraham went without knowing where he would land
Abraham left home when God called him, even though he didn’t know where he was going (Hebrews 11:8). He had enough direction to leave. The rest of the journey would unfold along the way.
Maybe you’re facing a change and wish you could see how it will all work out. Abraham’s story gives us a smaller question to start with. What’s the next step you already know to take?
Moses kept going when it cost him something
Moses had a place in Pharaoh’s household. He chose to stand with his people, knowing he would share in their suffering. Hebrews 11:24–27 describes how he endured by keeping his attention on God.
Sometimes the step of faith is staying with a hard decision after the initial courage wears off. Moses gives us a picture of what it means to keep trusting God in that part of the story, too.
Who will benefit from the faith you live out today?
Pastor Sharon Perry encouraged us to invest in the generations coming after us. That was a fitting reminder as we looked back on 40 years at Cornerstone. We can see what earlier generations made possible through years of praying, serving, and making room for people.
Who could you invest in now? Take time to listen to a younger person. Teach someone what you’ve learned. Give someone a chance to serve alongside you. You may only see the first conversation or the first small step. They may carry it with them for years.
