The Strength to Stand: Navigating the Middle and Stepping into Purpose

In life, it is remarkably easy to celebrate an exciting beginning. We love the launch of a new project, the first day of a new school year, or the honeymoon phase of a new venture. On the other end, it is deeply rewarding to cross a finish line and celebrate a hard-fought ending. But the vast majority of our lives—our careers, our families, and our spiritual journeys—takes place in the space between.

During a powerful Education Sunday service at Cornerstone Church, the community gathered to celebrate the major milestones of its graduates from preschool to college. Throughout the service, a unified, timely blueprint was delivered for anyone currently navigating a season of waiting, hard work, or transition: you are built to withstand the middle.

If you are currently feeling stuck in a demanding routine, facing unexpected challenges, or wondering if your efforts will ever pay off, the lessons from this special service offer the exact perspective shift you need to keep moving forward.

The Power of Early Foundations

The service opened with a celebratory focus on the critical early years of life. Michelle Minn, Executive Director of the Cornerstone Child Development Centers, shared a staggering statistic that reframes how we look at early education: nearly 90% of a child’s brain development happens before the age of five. At Cornerstone, early child development is viewed not as simple childcare, but as essential ministry, workforce support, and the intentional shaping of future leaders. Utilizing a Reggio Emilia-inspired philosophy, the center treats the learning environment as a “third teacher” to spark exploration, relationships, and hands-on creativity.

The lesson for adults is clear: the hidden, foundational years matter. The habits, values, and spiritual foundations built when no one is watching form the bedrock for every future success.

Meeting Individuals Exactly Where They Are

Building on that foundation, Miss Stevenson, Principal of The Legacy School, highlighted that true growth doesn’t always come easily. Sometimes growth looks like a difficult task and simply refusing to give up.

Because every individual grows and learns differently, true confidence begins the moment someone starts believing, “I can do this.” That kind of confidence doesn’t stay locked inside a classroom; it carries directly into life, relationships, and faith. However, growth isn’t an isolated journey. It requires a dedicated “village”—homes, classrooms, and a church body working in tandem to pray for, encourage, and walk alongside individuals as they discover who they are becoming.

The Blueprint: Don’t Quit in the Middle

The central message of the morning, delivered by youth leader Marco, challenged the graduates and the congregation to confront the hardest part of any journey: the middle. The middle is where the initial excitement wears off and the finish line is not yet visible. It is the zone where doubts, fear, pressure, and disappointment try to convince you to abandon the assignment. Marco shared a vital perspective on why this messy middle season is entirely necessary:

  • It is a place of refinement: Anyone can celebrate when everything is easy, but it takes courage to keep walking when you cannot see the finish line. The middle is exactly where God builds your internal strength, forms your character, and stretches your faith.

  • The promise requires perseverance: Referencing Galatians 6:9, scripture reminds us: “Let us not grow weary doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” The harvest and the breakthrough are structurally tied to outlasting the difficulty.

  • The miracle is in the storm: Pointing to the biblical narrative of Jesus calming the storm while in the boat with His disciples, Marco noted that the miracle didn’t happen safely at the shore or at the final destination—it happened right in the dead-center of the raging storm.

No matter how intense the “boss level fights” of life feel, you were intentionally created in the image of a perfect God. You are structurally built to “tank the storms” and outlast the pressure.

“Degrees can open doors, but character keeps you there. Talent may get people’s attention, but integrity sustains influence.”

Stepping Boldly Into Your Assignment

The service concluded with a powerful charge to the Class of 2026—and to every believer stepping into a new season—reminding them that they are not an accident in motion, but an assignment in progress.

When you step into rooms, boardrooms, careers, or callings that feel vastly bigger than you, the message is simple: do not shrink. If God has allowed the door to open, that room was already prepared for you, and you have been uniquely built to carry that specific weight.

Every delay you have experienced was not a denial; it was hidden, intentional development. Shake off the temptation to settle or quit when the journey gets heavy. Lean completely on your village, anchor your heart in your relationship with God, and step boldly into the next amazing chapter of your destiny. God always finishes what He starts!
