Preparing for the Next Level: The Lesson We Forfeit in the Waiting

We love the idea of a destination. We map out our five-year goals, we create vision boards for our careers, and we lift up passionate prayers for breakthroughs, promotions, and expanded influence.

But what if the next level of your life isn’t actually blocked by an obstacle? What if it’s simply waiting for your preparation?

In a challenging and soul-searching message, Pastor Tina Godair asked us to step out of our impatience and look into the mirror [01:07:53]. She confronted a truth that many of us try to bypass: God never wastes a waiting season, but we often do [50:34]. True readiness isn’t just about wanting the blessing—it’s about having the structural capacity to carry it when it arrives.

The Three Questions Every Leader Must Face

To anchor the message, Pastor Tina shared three heavy questions that should cause anyone pursuing growth to pause and evaluate their true capacity [43:47]. If God answered your deepest prayers by tomorrow morning, how would you measure up?

  1. The Character Test: If God doubled your influence tomorrow, would your character be able to sustain it [44:15]? 2. The Emotional Test: If He expanded your ministry or your professional platform, could your emotional health handle the criticism [44:32]?

  2. The Stewardship Test: If He drastically enlarged your financial resources, would your lack of management collapse it [44:41]?

We see it happen all the time in the world—athletes signing massive multi-million dollar contracts only to end up in chaos shortly after [51:50]. Why? Because they prepared for the sport, but they didn’t prepare for the weight of the blessing [52:22]. Vision without realistic calculation is nothing short of foolishness [55:46].

Understanding the Appointed Season

When Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us that “to everything there is a season,” the Hebrew definition of season points directly to an appointed time for a matter of significance [50:59]. You aren’t stranded in a random, forgotten chapter of life; you are anchored in a deliberate season of preparation [52:35].

Pastor Tina broke this down using an incredibly practical scenario:

Imagine praying for a beautiful, $300,000 home and suddenly winning it completely free [53:00]. It sounds like an absolute miracle until the property tax bill arrives at $8,000 to $18,000 [53:54]. If you haven’t disciplined yourself to build up a healthy savings account, your answered prayer quickly transforms into your greatest source of financial panic [54:08].

We frequently shout about miracles while entirely ignoring the daily, heavy responsibilities that miracles demand [55:26].

God Tests in Private Before He Trusts in Public

Every great Biblical legacy required a grueling, hidden season of training:

  • Daniel spent years studying language, wisdom, and culture in Babylon before earning a leadership seat [57:51].

  • David faced the anonymous lions and bears in the wilderness long before he was ever handed a spotlight to fight Goliath [57:58].

  • Esther fasted, prayed, and positioned her heart through strict protocols before saving her people [58:15].

The spiritual law remains entirely unchanged: God will always test your heart in private before He trusts you in public [58:03].

Pastor Tina shared a vulnerable moment where she recently overheard two individuals speaking poorly of her [01:01:18]. The “old version” of herself might have reacted defensively [01:01:37]. Instead, she consciously chose to lift her shoulders, roll the criticism off, and put her focus entirely on pleasing God rather than trying to satisfy people [01:01:58]. If you build your identity on the shifting platform of validation and social media “likes,” you will live on an emotional roller coaster for the rest of your life [01:03:09].

Stop Burying Your Gifting Out of Fear

In Matthew 25, the unfaithful servant admitted that he hid his talent because he was afraid [01:06:09]. It’s vital to notice that he didn’t lose his talent; he preserved it perfectly in the dirt [01:06:20]. But keeping your gift stagnant is just as costly as losing it entirely [01:06:34]. Your calling was built to multiply impact, not to be safely buried away to avoid risk.

2 Timothy 1:6 urges us to “fan into flame” the gifts inside of us [01:04:52]. In the original Greek text, stir up means to rekindle, fan into flame, and actively keep alive [01:05:21]. It is your personal responsibility to keep the fire hot—no one else can do the stoking for you [01:06:00].

Final Reflection

Take an honest inventory of your current prayers this week. Are you actively cultivating the character, discipline, and emotional stability required to carry the answers you are demanding from God?

Proverbs 21:31 says, “The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord.” [58:27] Our job is to do the hard work of getting ready; God’s job is to secure the victory [58:45]. Stop looking at this waiting room as a punishment, and start utilizing it as your training ground. Your next level is ready when you are.
